Visualizing Global Food Waste XXVI

I do love a good infographic…Feast your eyes on these informative graphics, courtesy of these committed Australian restaurateurs. As you can see, those are some tall, tall waste bins in the Food Losses and Waste Per Capita graph! They represent the poor infrastructure (poor storage, technology, and roads, etc.) throughout much of the developing world […]

Visualizing UK Waste

Here’s a neat infographic on food waste in Britain, courtesy of Rangemaster. One of the more telling details: 86 million chickens are wasted every year in the UK. What the cluck?! Another effective part of the infographic is the Wembley Stadium indicator. But it’s worth noting: UK food waste would fill that stadium 8 times […]

Food for Thought

I just came across this recent EPA infographic on waste and particularly enjoyed this portion: That 95% statistic comes from the EPA’s Municipal Solid Waste report, which shows that composting levels have doubled from 2008 to 2012. (It went from 2.3% to 4.8%.) While those low amounts enable such dramatic improvement, at least we’re improving! I also […]

Living Better, Wasting Less

The Guardian normally keeps a keen eye on food waste. Starting this week, though, the UK newspaper has gone one step further by creating the Live Better Challenge. The seven month editorial project will tackle a new sustainability topic each month. Encouragingly, food waste is up first, and that’s a boon for both home cooks […]

Visualizing Australian Food Waste

Apparently, infographic month continues here at Wasted Food, this time for Australia. My favorite stat from Foodwise: Australia’s annual food waste would fill enough trash trucks to stretch from Oz to New Zealand three times! (I will refrain from making a lame Outback Steakhouse joke here.)

Visualizing Food Waste XXIV

I sure love me some infographics. This one, created by the Debt Advisory Centre mostly depicts UK data, with some global facts sprinkled throughout. A few quick points: Roughly speaking, tonnes = tons  (1 tonne = 1.10 tons) I like how it emphasizes the magnitude of waste stemming from date labels and taking too much. The […]
