Here’s a detailed description of keeping worms to compost food that has the added bonus of being the first piece I’ve ever read that manages to combine vermiculture and The Wire.

Last night’s dinner can be today’s breakfast? Si, Senor!

This piece on a chef-led, British campaign to bag food waste has two stunners. One, London diners are less likely than their New York counterparts to take food home? Two, “doggy boxes?”
(More on the campaign here.)

Just told this story to my London colleagues at dinner last night: the first time I went to London, I asked to have my pasta bagged up to take home at an Italian restaurant. The waiter gave me a look, but took it and came back with an old yogurt tub covered with plastic wrap. He said “sorry, this is all we had. We don’t normally do this here” I appreciated the effort, and learned a cultural lesson.
Thanks for sharing that anecdote, AP. Further evidence to support the idea that UK diners (or is it just Londoners?) are more reluctant to ask for doggy bags (or boxes)…
Anyone else have insight on UK vs. US leftover taking?
