If you think you’re having a bad day, at least this didn’t happen to you. What a nightmare!

I’m reading Fresh: A Perishable History right now. Fascinating stuff. Author Susanne Freidberg discusses the controversy surrounding refrigeration and examines the concept of freshness through six different commodities.

This blog post from Toronto tackles catering waste from a college reunion, but with a seldom discussed source–age.

The age factor is really unrecognized. We did a party in our neighborhood, most of us were grandparent age. Although we had a lot of food leftover, it would have been much worse if it hadn’t been for a couple of teenagers who could eat like we used to do. It’s funny how our food shopping is so often based on the memory of eating that just isn’t accurate anymore. Someone should do a bit more writing on this – in its own way it carries the same impact that traylessness does for the college crowd.
As ever, we look forward to your blog and especially the Friday Buffet.

Who says it didn’t?
It really does make for a bad day. Even if you bear no responsibility at all and the cause was a shorted circuit.
June 20th is perfect for starting “Eat Down the Fridge” – it’s the beginning of Discardia, my favorite holiday, which is celebrated by getting rid of stuff:
