Game for Grain

Who wouldn’t want to aid the hungry by playing a game?(rice)

That’s what Free Rice does, with the UN World Food Program donating 20 grains of rice for every vocab word you successfully identify. Who says you can’t affect change in this global economy?

Now is a great time to play, as rice prices are going through the roof. Some even say there’s a rice crisis (I prefer ‘risis’) brewing. Prices are rising and stockpiles are thinning.

With that in mind, wasting food seems even more senseless than usual.

I just ADORE that game. I’m a big vocabulary dork, so it’s right up my alley.

I’ll have to go play again.

When I first discovered FreeRice, I was a little skeptical. It seemed too easy – no login or personal information required? Yeah right!

But it does seem very legitimate, and fun to boot. The words start off fairly reasonable, but get tricky quickly.

I recommend everyone checking it out at least for a little while.

You’re telling me! At 20 grains per word, the cost of food has gone way up. Even Dickens didn’t work that cheap.
