Matt, I think that's a definite temptation when you're cutting back on waste. The solution, I think, is to cook less food, buy less food, and order less food. Then there is less risk of having leftovers. And of course, when you do have leftovers, you should eat them instead of cooking more, buying more, or ordering more, you know?

<strike>Bloom for Food Waste Czar 2009!</strike> Who me?

I think the real question is: Who isn't interested in a mozzarella stick? Joking...

I wouldn't want anyone to overeat. The important thing is that you're considering the issue and trying to avoid waste. If a mozzarella stick gets tossed--well, it happens. But it sounds like the perfect situation for my (ill-fated) idea of the dog-friendly restaurant.

In general, though, you can always take food home. And if you find the excess tends to be more than a single mozzarella stick, you can think about why you often have extra. It's not hard to overorder when eating out in the U.S. of A.

Admit it, you're in line to be the Food Waste Czar. Yes, you can.

You've certainly raised my awareness of the issue. The only problem is that I'm putting on weight to avoid waste. On multiple occasions, while dining out, I've eaten something that otherwise didn't interest me in order to keep someone else from throwing it away.

I guess I shouldn't make my efforts seem so noble. On Tuesday night it was a mozzarella stick. No great sacrifice there.
