Items in a buffet line served by staff, however, can be donated. Same goes for food prepared, but not served. Not only is it legal, but donors are protected by the (Federal) Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Law and often state laws as well. I thought it was illegal to give food away and that it had to be dumped in the garbage.
