Thanks for posting that link, Gloria. I took the "Portion Distortion" quiz and didn't fare so well. But it sure illustrates the difference in portion size from today and 20 years ago. I'm going to post more on the topic soon since you've got my waste-preventing self in a lather. On the topic of menus, though, I found it interesting that Romano's Macaroni Grill doesn't have a URL for its nutritional info (hmm...) and that its Spaghetti & Meatballs with Meat Sauce dinner has 2430 calories! That's more calories than most people need for a day in one sitting! Go to http://www.macaronigrill.com/Menu/Menu.aspx?UnitId=001.009.0079 and find the "nutritional information" link at the bottom.

I was shocked to see the calorie counts for Chili's menu! Thanks for that link.
In reference to increased portion sizes from earlier eras, check out the "Portion Distortion" slide sets from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute web site at http://hp2010.nhlbihin.net/portion/
It really dramatizes how serving sizes have increased. When eating out, I often think how the individual servings now come in bowls or platters that look as if they were designed to serve an entire family. It's terribly wasteful, and encourages overeating. But I suppose it increases the restaurant's income? Not sure how this trend will be reversed.
